Nepal Development Society (NEDS) is a non-governmental, non-profitable, non-political civil society organization established in 2013 with a focus on research, innovation, and development. NEDs is registered at District Administrative Office, Chitwan and affiliated with Social Welfare Council of Nepal. NEDS has so far worked in 15 of Nepal’s 77 districts with substantial involvement in three districts: Chitwan, Kaski, and Gorkha districts of central Nepal. It coordinates the May Measurement Month— the largest blood pressure screening campaign— which has benefited nearly 25,000 people in two years of implementation. NEDS also implements three high-quality cluster-randomised trials exploring sustainable community-based interventions for emerging non-communicable diseases namely diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cervical cancer.
Further, the organization conducted skill-based training for over 250 people from earthquake-affected regions after the massive earthquakes in 2015. In a short period, the organization has been able to expand its social capital by becoming the leading research and development organization in Nepal. To its record, NEDS have had collaborative projects with more than 15 national and international organization including the Ministry of Health of Nepal. The data generated by NEDS have contributed to 6 PhD projects and 7 Graduate thesis projects. NEDS published more than 100 scientific articles—which is the highest for any non-academic institutions in Nepal.
NEDS has started a new project entitled, “Birth attendants’ perceptions and attitudes towards changes of the practice of umbilical cord clamping” in Kathmandu Nepal in collaboration with Uppsala University, Sweden.
