Tara Ballav Adhikari is a public health researcher specializing in non-communicable diseases, environmental health, and community-based health systems in Nepal. He holds a PhD in Public Health from Aarhus University (Denmark), an MSc in Public Health from the University of Southern Denmark, and a bachelor’s degree in health sciences from Tribhuvan University, Nepal.

His research primarily focuses on strengthening the prevention, early detection, and management of chronic respiratory diseases, particularly chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). He has a special interest in understanding how environmental and climate-related factors influence health outcomes in low-resource settings. Adhikari has collaborated extensively with the Nepal Development Society (NeDS), contributing to community-based studies and evidence-driven public health interventions.

Tara has authored influential publications on the prevalence, risk factors, and community-based management of COPD, including the development of training programs for Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs) and analyses using national and global burden-of-disease data. Through his research and fieldwork, he continues to bridge science, health policy, and on-the-ground implementation, significantly contributing to the improvement of public health programs across Nepal.
